The Wells Gray Community Forest Corporation (WGCFC) is seeking new board members to play an important role in the management of local forest resources.

This is a great opportunity to represent your community’s interests and ensure community values are met during these challenging times in the forest industry.

The WGCFC board of directors is comprised of seven volunteer members who oversee the management of the WGCFC. The WGCFC manages the land-base and watershed surrounding Clearwater. This land base is managed for multiple values and objectives such as visuals, forest health, water, wildlife, range, trapping, local economy, public and traditional indigenous use, and recreation.

The WGCFC generates income by developing timber resources and selling logs to local logging contractors based on a competitive bid process.

The profits from selling the timber are distributed locally by the Wells Gray 2010 Society. They are comprised of seven volunteer members representing the community. The society receives the profits from the WGCFC and distributes portions of these funds semi-annually to eligible proponents in Wells Gray Country who apply through a grant application process and meet the funding criteria.

The WGCFC board of directors meets on a monthly basis to discuss business with the general manager. Board member qualifications are as follows:

Be a permanent resident of the Wells Gray Country/District of Clearwater, or an individual of the Simpcw First Nation.

Have been a resident of the aforementioned area for the past 3 years.

Be qualified, as required by the Business Corporations Act, to become, act, or continue to act as a director.

All members are required to follow a code of conduct and complete a Conflict of Interest statement.

If you are interested in becoming a WGCFC Board Member, please contact the General Manager of the WGCFC at 250-674-3530. The WGCFC website is also a valuable resource for additional information about the Wells Gray Community Forest: www.WGCFC.ca
