The hall of the Shepherd of the Valley Church was at capacity for the all-candidates meeting hosted by the Willoughby Residents Association Thursday evening.
Several people were unable to get into the event because the room was at capacity. This was the first time the residents’ group held an all-candidate meeting.
The residents association that covers the neighbourhoods of Carvolth, Gordon, Jericho, Latimer, Routley, Smith, Williams and Yorkson did set up a Facebook live for those unable to get into the building.
“Thank you WRA for hosting this event! I was turned away at the door as the place was at capacity, so I appreciate that you live streamed it on FB,” Lisa Boughen posted on the WRA Facebook page.
Candidates were given 30 seconds to introduce themselves before questions were posed to those running for office with three candidates answering each question. The meeting closed with candidates asked to sum up their views. The crowd was warned that there would be no clapping and no booing.
The meeting centred on the issues for the neighbourhood, including planning, development, density, the pace of development, public amenities, crime, and housing.
