Commute in Nanaimo slowed as SUV goes up onto highway barrier, gets stuck

Accident happened at 5 p.m. on old Island Highway and Highland Boulevard

The evening commute was slowed along the old Island Highway after a vehicle got stuck on a concrete barrier.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue, Nanaimo RCMP and B.C. Ambulance were called to the Highway 19A at Highland Boulevard at 5 p.m. Tuesday after an SUV was driven up onto the barrier dividing the highway from the boulevard and got stuck.

There were no injuries in the crash and highway traffic northbound was limited to a single lane as crews cleared the scene.

According to Nanaimo Fire Rescue’s callout sheet, the crash was the fourth motor vehicle accident of the day that firefighters attended.
