Following multiple letters in support of a bike pump track in Comox, council is proceeding with examining possible locations within the town.
At the June 16 council meeting, Coun. Alex Bissinger noted the town has received a lot of interest from members of the public and parent advisory councils (PACs).
“I know a lot of PACs are interested in submitting something. I’m not saying that’s the end-all solution – I think something down a the marina would be awesome as well, but there seems to be a big movement for a skatepark and I think it would a super addition to the community.”
Coun. Nicole Minions added the town received seven letters from the Brooklyn PAC and through talking to parents, the pump track seems as though it is a main focus for the group.
In terms of location or property, Coun. Ken Grant noted there has yet to be a discussion, but there may be a piece of land near the town’s public works yard on Guthrie Road that is under consideration.
He added he recently spoke with Cumberland Mayor Leslie Baird and she told him the tracks can be quite noisy, particularly if there is a BMX event with loudspeakers.
“Close to other houses, they find that problematic in Cumberland … when you’re looking for a piece of property you want something a little bit away from the residential areas.”
