Comox examines including K’omox First Nation signage within the town

Councillors from the Town of Comox have unanimously agreed to investigate K'omoks First Nation signage within the town.

Councillors from the Town of Comox have unanimously agreed to investigate K’omoks First Nation signage within the town.

In a motion brought forward at Wednesday’s committee of the whole meeting, Coun. Barbara Price said the idea was inspired by a government to government engagement session hosted by KFN earlier this year.

“It’s good to have the focus of honoring our relationship … we work together and understand each other,” she explained.

In her motion, she noted flying a flag acknowledges the close ties both as neighbours and that the town is within the KFN traditional territory.

On further research, she added KFN is without a flag, and asked if Comox could explore with KFN the feasibility of developing appropriate signage and a suitable location.

She agreed it would be suitable to have the town’s chief administrative officer, Richard Kanigan, meet with his counterpart at KFN, and that KFN may also consent to add words and/or design elements to the signage.
