The Comox Valley Regional District is launching the Road to 2030: Comox Valley Climate Action Challenge.

Road to 2030 is a participatory challenge to support community-led climate action projects to advance the Regional Growth Strategy’s target of 50 per cent greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2030.

Community members of all ages and non-profit organizations with high impact climate action projects in the Comox Valley are invited to apply. A sum of $27, 000 will be awarded to either one outstanding project, or split between two or three selected projects.

“Hearing the call from young people across the globe to take action against climate change, and the CVRD board’s declaration of climate crisis, we’ve designed Road to 2030 to catalyze local climate action, and empower local individuals and organizations to help put their great ideas into motion,” said Alana Mullaly, general manager of planning and development services.

Applications are welcome for projects in the following categories:

•Renewable Energy

•Transportation

•Solid Waste Management

•Water Management (wastewater or freshwater)

•Sequestration (reforestation/ afforestation/ wetland restoration)

•Food (waste/ security/ local production)

Submissions are required by June 1.
