A severe collision near Kaleden last week showed driving under the influence continues to be a concern for Penticton RCMP
The vehicle rolled three times before coming to a stop in a ditch, with the lone person in the vehicle sustaining serious injuries.

Const. James Grandy said the Kaleden Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to extract the man from the vehicle. He added that the officer at the scene interviewed several witnesses and it is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash.
“Of note, earlier this same evening, the traffic section issued out a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition for alcohol impairment for a different driver. Soon thereafter, a three-day prohibition was also issued for yet another driver,” said Grandy.

According to RCMP, the two members in the traffic section have issued 50 roadside prohibitions this year.
“This does not include other driving-related suspensions that have been issued in the three-day, seven-day or 30-day categories,” said Grandy.
