A suspect is facing numerous charges after an incident at a Vernon convenience store.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, the RCMP received a report that two men had been in an altercation in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on 39th Avenue.
“One man departed in small, dark, two-door car. The second man, who appeared to have suffered injuries, then entered the 7-Eleven where he stole several items,” said Cpl. Tory Romailler.
“On exiting the store, the second man provoked a second altercation with a group of people who were fuelling a vehicle at the store gas pumps. Before the suspect was subdued, a woman and man suffered hand injuries and another man was punched.”
The RCMP arrived shortly afterwards and took a 20-year-old into custody.
On arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of a significant amount of drugs.
The injured individuals were treated and released at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Following a court hearing Monday, Byron Melendez, 20, of Vernon, has been remanded in custody and charged with seven criminal counts s related to the incident.
Melendez has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, assault, uttering threats, theft under and two cases of possession of a controlled substance.
