On September 22, 2015, Trinity United Church was affected by a devasting fire that left massive damage to the church’s worship space, kitchen and meeting hall, rendering it unusable.
Reconstruction of the church was started on September 18, 2017. Silverado Construction, a division of Treay Enterprises from Cranbrook, was selected as the successful bid by the church’s insurance adjuster to rebuild and are committed to subcontracting locally.
The demolition on the existing foundation was done by Rotar Excavation and framing will be done by ZKO Construction, both are local Creston companies.
Work on the construction site was temporarily slowed to complete a geotechnical survey of the soil. It has been suggested that the foundation plans will have had to be altered to protect the integrity of the power pole in the northeast corner, as well as the foundation and sidewalk along the south wall of the Catalpa Apartment Building.
Construction is anticipated to take 42 weeks. During this time, the church parking lot will not be available for public use. The parking lot is now an active working construction site with construction equipment regularly entering and exiting the site.
“It is important that the access points remain clear so that the contractors can do their work,” said Reverend Paula Ashby. “We appreciate people’s support and understanding during this time.”
Trinity Church Worship has continued in the Lower Rotacrest Hall, located at the Creston & District Community Complex on Sundays at 10 AM. The Administrative Office is now temporarily located at 136 10th Avenue North in the Catalpa Apartments main floor, next to the church parking lot.
