The construction of a new marina in Prince Rupert is set to begin later this month.

Broadwater Industries has been awarded the contract to construct a 51 slip itinerant yacht marina behind Atlin Terminal in Cow Bay, with a 600-foot public wharf being included in the design.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of July and officially open to the public this fall.

The City of Prince Rupert, Community Futures of the Pacific Northwest, the Prince Rupert Port Authority and the Prince Rupert Port Edward Economic Development Corporation are partnering for the project, which was announced at the Northwest Growth Conference on Saturday morning.

Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain said the project is “the beginning of a much larger strategy to open up access to our waterfront for locals and those near and far”.
