Construction work is progression on a nine-unit subdivision in Summerland’s downtown.
The development project is on Kelly Avenue, across from Summerland Middle School. Each of the nine homes will have a secondary suite and will provide densification in the downtown area.
Fred Trainor of Okanagan Falls, the developer of the project, said the first house in the development is expected to be completed before the end of this year. Two others now under construction are expected to be completed by late January.
He said five of the units have already been sold, but only one of those is under construction at present. Because some details with the subdivision plan are still being finalized, work could proceed on only three of the units.
Trainor said the housing market in the area has softened since the development proposal was approved by Summerland council last November, but prices have not dropped.
“I remain tremendously excited about this project,” Trainor said.
This is Trainor’s eighth development project in the South Okanagan and his first in Summerland.
