Milestone Equipment Contracting Inc. of Nanaimo has been awarded the contract for the second phase of the Chemainus Road Corridor Upgrade Project.
With the Municipality of North Cowichan announcing the successful bidder, construction will begin again soon on Chemainus Road. Milestone has a broad range of experience in civil construction and working in communities on Vancouver Island since 2005.
Construction began last fall on Stage 1 of the project, the work on underground utilities by Copcan Civil Ltd., also of Nanaimo.

The second stage includes all the surface work: the new roundabout at River Road; sidewalk; paved bike lanes and roadway; landscaping and rain gardens; signage; and new fencing on the east side of Chemainus Road.
“We’re excited to make this announcement today, which gets us one step closer to the finished project, which the community envisioned years ago with the 2011 Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan,” noted North Cowichan Mayor Al Siebring. “We expect this work to begin the second week of July, with an estimated completion date in late November.”
Residents can expect some disruptions along Chemainus Road during the second stage of constriction, including single-lane traffic and detours. For project updates and more, visit www.northcowichan.ca/ChemainusRoad.
