A controlled burn came a little close for comfort to residents living at Riva Ridge Estates Monday afternoon.
Penticton fire and Penticton Indian Band’s fire department were called to the mobile home community off Highway 97 around 2 p.m. from reports of a grass fire creeping close to the homes.
When fire crews arrived, they learned that the land owner had created a stop ridge with a backhoe and was doing a controlled burn to get rid of all the brush in a gully near the homes.
But the land owner didn’t let the residents know so that’s why they called the fire department, said Penticton fire.
Fire crews were putting out hot spots and some residents were housing down an area that was burning close to the road.
