Cooling Centres will be made available for Abbotsford residents today (Friday) and all weekend long to combat the heat wave rolling through much of southwestern B.C.
The centres will be operational from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on days when the temperature exceeds 30 degrees on consecutive days.
Abbotsford has two centres, one located at 2575 Gladwin Road (Seven Oaks Alliance Church parking lot) and 2495 West Railway Street (city-owned parking lot).
The centres include: tents for shade, water, misting fans and cooling supplies.
They are staffed by the CEDAR Outreach Society and supported by the Abbotsford Police Department. CEDAR is responsible for all cooling centre operations including site setup and take down, clean up and site management. The APD works with local businesses to address their questions and minimize any disruption to their businesses.
