Two cooling centres are open again in Abbotsford, as another heat wave settles over the Fraser Valley.
The centres are at 2575 Gladwin Rd. (in the Sevenoaks Alliance Church parking lot) and at 2495 West Railway St.
The cooling centres are equipped with shade tents, water, misting fans and cooling supplies. Cooling centres are put into place when the temperature exceeds 32 C or remains above 30 C for consecutive days.
Environment Canada is forecasting increasingly warm days between now and Friday, when they expect it to reach 33 C in Abbotsford. Other weather forecasting sites show highs of 35 C.
The centres are open for four hours a day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
They are staffed by the CEDAR Outreach Society and supported by the Abbotsford Police Department. CEDAR is responsible for all cooling centre operations including site setup and takedown, cleanup and site management.
The APD works with local businesses to address their questions and minimize any disruption to their businesses.
