The race for the mayor’s chair now has two candidates.
Nancy Cooper, business manager for the Canadian Mental Health Association and board vice-chair of the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union, filed her papers to run for mayor Friday.
Coun. Kevin Flynn has publicly declared his candidacy for mayor, but has not yet filed papers. The deadline is Oct. 14.
Cooper has made two previous unsuccessful mayoral attempts in 2005 and 2008. In 2005, only three votes separated Cooper from Mayor Marty Bootsma.
“Having served on city council in the past, I am aware of community issues and am committed to the study and research required to make informed decisions,” she says in a press release.
“I will look for ways to improve economic opportunities in Salmon Arm by supporting local business and attracting investment that will provide good quality jobs for the citizens in our community.”
Cooper also is putting the focus of her campaign on families and connecting with youth and seniors.
“As your mayor, I will ask our seniors to help create a Founders’ walkway with the names of our distinguished residents etched in stone.”
