Coquitlam RCMP say they believe a youth was behind a threat to Centennial Secondary School Thursday morning (Sept. 28)
The detachment issued a “hold and secure” for the high school and nearby Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex shortly before 11:30 a.m., advising them to lock their doors and keep everyone inside.
RCMP said they were working on an “unfolding event” in the area and issued the order out of an abundance of caution.
“However, there is no reason to believe that there is a risk to the public at this time,” they posted on X, formerly Twitter.
By 2:30 p.m., the detachment said the situation had been resolved safely. Officers have identified a youth from a different jurisdiction who they believe was behind the threat.
Police are on the scene at Poirier St. and Winslow Ave. for an unfolding event. Out of abundance of caution, the public rec. centre and nearby school have been placed in a hold and secure.
