The BC Coroner’s Service is analyzing remains found near the site of a floathome that exploded in Uchucklesaht Inlet in March.
RCMP found the remains during a search of the site on March 18, coroner’s service spokesperson Barb McLintock said.
“The police discovered remains which are believed to be human and they’re undergoing testing right now,” she said. “How long that will take will depend on what they are working with and how difficult or easy it is to make a determination.”
According to RCMP, on March 16 a witness reported hearing an explosion near Snug Basin in Uchucklesaht Inlet. Upon surveying the scene the witness found that a float home had burned and sank to 15 metres below the water surface.
The 64 year-old man who owns and lives on the float home couldn’t be found and RCMP initiated a search.
