The closure of a section of the Trans Canada Trail last week was for the recovery of a body of a deceased man, the BC Coroners Service confirmed Tuesday morning.
RCMP responded to the Boundary Drive area Thursday morning, and a section of Trans Canada Trail from Boundary Drive to past Gospel Chapel was closed for much of the day.
The Grand Forks RCMP declined numerous requests for comment on Thursday and Friday, and Tuesday morning referred the filed to the BC Coroners Service.
BC Coroners Service spokesperson Barb McLintock said Tuesday the Coroners Service is in the preliminary stages of an investigation into the death of a West Kootenay- area male in his late 20s, recovered from the ravine in that area on Thursday.
McLintock said there is no reason to believe the death is suspicious. The Coroners Service no longer releases the names of the deceased.
