Cosens Bay access could grow

RDNO wants B.C. Parks to provide two wheelchair parking spaces at Cosens Bay beach

Pressure is growing for disabled access at a popular beach as long as it doesn’t burden local taxpayers.

The Regional District of North Okanagan wants B.C. Parks to provide two wheelchair parking spaces at Cosens Bay beach in Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park.

However, director Mike Macnabb admits he is concerned about possible government downloading.

“Who is responsible for looking after that (parking space maintenance)?” he said. “Are we supposing we’d take control of this?”

However, RDNO staff don’t believe Macnabb has anything to worry about.

“It’s a provincial park and this is a task that they (B.C. Parks) consider doing this,” said David Sewell, chief administrative officer.
