The regular meeting of municipal council was held on May 27 in council chambers. The mayor and all councillors were present.
Resolutions
First period report received
Council received the Departmental First Period Report dated May 22. The report is an update on the municipality’s goals and objectives.
Meeting schedule amended
Council approved the amended 2013 council meeting schedule.
Beverage garden requested
Council approved a special occasion liquor license for the Summerland Slo-Pitch Association for their annual tournament. The tournament will be at the Dale Meadows Sports Complex June 22 and 23.
Organizers must conform to conditions set out by the Director of Parks and Recreation and by the Summerland RCMP detachment.
Bylaws
Readings given
to zoning change
Council gave second and third readings to a bylaw amending the zoning at 10918 Rennie St. The bylaw amends the zoning and creates the M1-A Business Industrial Zone.
A public hearing on the bylaw had been held earlier in the evening.
Electric vehicle bylaw read
Council gave first three readings to a low-speed electric powered vehicle authorization bylaw. “This has been going around the table since the early 2000s,” said Coun. Bruce Hallquist. “It’s time to get on with it.”
Coun. Martin Van Alphen said the vehicles are for in-town use, not highway travel.
“I think they’re a wonderful addition to our community,” he said.
Fees and charges amended
Council adopted a bylaw amending its fees and charges bylaw. The amendment is for development services charges, building permit fees and sign permit fees.
Zoning bylaw
text amended
Council gave first reading to a zoning bylaw text amendment. The amendment will add recreation service, indoor as a permitted use in the CB1-Central Business Zone.
A public hearing on the amendment will be held on June 10.
