The regular council agenda for Sept. 12 was relatively light and included three public hearings on one urban development and two rural developments. Here’s the quick run-down.
•••••
Council approved a subdivision off Taulbut Street, just south of 11 Avenue and Centennial Park. The subdivision will feature 10 lots, four of which will be accessed from a new cul-de-sac built off Taulbut. Three lots will be accessed directly from Taulbut, and the remaining three from a new cul-de-sac off Deerfield Street.

Council approved two rural residential subdivisions, one parcel on the northwest side of Richards Avenue and Willingdon Street, and the second parcel west of Barr Street and south of Richards. The first development features two lots of 0.7 ha and 1.32 ha, while the second development will subdivide the property into five lots of 0.7 ha each. A new road called Darbyshire Drive will be constructed.

Othmar Kagi, president of the Mission Citizens Association, appeared before council to request the district send a representative to speak about water meters at an upcoming public meeting organized by the association. Council decided that no civil workers could be spared, but several councillors expressed interest of appearing at the meeting. That takes place Saturday, Sept. 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Silverdale Hall.

The district has given Millstream Sorting Ltd. in the heavy industrial zone south of Lougheed Highway and Dewdney Trunk Road 30 days notice to identify, consider and implement noise abatement options with regards to its tree debarker. Some residents had complained of loud, piercing noises coming from the machine on the property beginning as early as 8 a.m. and continuing to 5 p.m.

Coming up on the Sept. 19 council agenda, this looks to be a full slate of interesting issues. Some select items:
• Residents’ opposition to the proposed pedestrian trail to Tunbridge Park in the Gaudin Creek restoration project.
• A proposed relocation of the Rockin’ River Festival from Mission Raceway Park to lands adjacent to Fraser River Heritage Park
• Resident request to complete the sidewalk on 14 Avenue. Staff has given council five options to consider, and is recommending delaying a decision until the 2012 budget.
