A Courtenay business on Headquarters Road is temporarily closed due to an early morning fire Friday (Sept. 11).
Courtenay firefighters were able to contain the fire to the lower level of the business, located at Goods Grocery at 140 Headquarters Rd., which happened around 2:50 a.m., said Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex.
“There was a residence over the commercial part of the building, but the family was able to evacuate prior to our arrival,” he added.
About 20 firefighters assisted with the fire and were able to contain it to the one level. Bardonnex added the commercial level suffered smoke damage, but the upstairs was cleared by their crew and the family was able to return.
