A pub/condo proposal near the Courtenay Air Park is drawing mixed reviews from area residents.
Whistle Stop Neighbourhood Pub owner Barry Van Dusen has applied to the city to increase the seating capacity to 250, expand the outdoor patio and add a new liquor store on the ground level at 2355 Mansfield Dr. Above would be 30 condominiums. The five-storey building would front Mansfield.
“A pub/liquor store and an attractive residential building will only add positivity to the neighbourhood,” Mansfield residents Jim and Sue Percival state in a letter to the city. They suggest a controlled intersection is required at the north end of Mansfield. “The need will only intensify with this project.”
Janice Ford, who also lives on Mansfield, concurs that traffic lights are needed on her street to deal with increasing volumes.
Courtenay council will re-visit the application and consider third reading at an upcoming meeting.
