A fast food restaurant in Courtenay is the latest business in the Comox Valley to warn guests about an exposure to COVID-19 as one of its employees tested positive.
A&W at 581-C Ryan Road has confirmed through Island Health that one of their team members tested positive for the virus Thursday (Feb. 25) evening. In a post on social media, the restaurant said Public Health has initiated contact tracing to identify anyone who has had a high-risk exposure.
“These individuals have been directly contacted by Public Health for further guidance,” explained the restaurant in the post.
The exposure took place on Sunday, Feb. 21 between the hours of 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
A&W noted although the majority of their staff are deemed low-risk by Public Health, as an extra precautionary measure they have temporarily closed the restaurant to allow all their employees to monitor for symptoms from home.
“Due to our extensive COVID-19 protocols carried out by our team members within the restaurant, this exposure is believed to have no risk to you, our valued guest,” they wrote.
On. Feb. 24, Thrifty Foods at 1551 Cliffe Ave. confirmed a staff member tested positive for the virus. The last day the employee worked was on Feb. 20.
In a letter to parents Wednesday, (Feb. 24), the superintendent of School District 71 said there are eight members within the district who have tested positive for COVID-19, and 108 staff and students who will be required to self-isolate for two weeks.
Other sites in the Valley with confirmed COVID-19 cases include École Au-cœur-de-l’île on Linshart Road in Comox and Inglis Early Learning & Preschool (2137 Comox Ave.).
