A snowboarding slopestyler from Courtenay was named Friday to the Canadian Olympic Team competing in Sochi, Russia.
The roster, announced in Vancouver, includes Spencer O’Brien of Courtenay, who will compete in slopestyle, a new Olympic event.
O’Brien is making up for a slow start to snowboarding.
Her successes include 2012 O’Neill Evolution winner, 2012 World Snowboard Slopestyle champion, 2013 Burton US Open Slopestyle winner and winner of the recent FIS World Snowboard championships.
The rest of the Canadian Olympic snowboard team will be announced in Quebec City on Jan. 21.
