Events are being cancelled in Nelson and non-profit organizations are shutting down in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Here’s a list of changes from around the city and nearby region that the Star will continue to update.
We’ve left for-profit businesses off the list due to the overwhelming number closed at this time. Please check with local business about their operations and what services they are providing at this time.

ANKORS: Services ongoing, but access has changed. Users are asked to call 250-505-5506 for details, or to knock on service door for harm reduction services.
BCSPCA Nelson branch: Open by adoption appointment or emergency surrenders only. Staff continue to provide on-site care for animals.
Capitol Theatre: Closed until May 1.
Cellar 12 Step Recovery: closed until further notice.
Community Futures: Office closed.
Cube Climbing Centre: closed until further notice.
Eagles Lodge: Closed.
Glacier Gymnastics: Closed until further notice.
Kalein Centre: Death Cafe Series scheduled for March 25 cancelled.
Kaslo May Days: Cancelled.
Kootenay Shambhala Meditation Centre: Closed.
Mountain Lake and Jubilee Manor: Long-term care restricted to essential visits only. These include compassionate visits for end-of-life care and visits that support care plans for residents.
Nelson Civic Arena: Shut down for at least four weeks.
Nelson Civic Theatre: Operations suspended until further notice.
Nelson Community Food Centre: Schedule changed to once a week on Wednesdays 1 to 5 p.m., closed on Mondays.
Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall’s office: Appointments only, remote services available.
Nelson and District Community Complex: Shut down for at least four weeks beginning March 17.
Nelson and District Women’s Centre: Closed until further notice. Food donations accepted outside the building, Tuesday and Thursdays at noon to 4 p.m.
Nelson and District Youth Centre: Spring break camps to continue through March 27, but drop-ins closed to public.
Nelson Girl Guides: Activities suspended through April 15.
Nelson Interfaith Climate Action Collaborative: Tom Rand talk scheduled for March 28 cancelled.
Nelson Public Library: Closed including all programs events, meeting room booking, and outreach programs. But the online library is available 24/7 at nelsonlibrary.ca and staff are accessible by phone at 250-352-6333 to answer questions on how to access the online services and sign up for a library card online.
Nelson Soccer Association: All programs suspended.
Nelson Stitch Lab: Spring break classes cancelled.
Options for Sexual Health: Services limited to birth control pick-up. Call 250-354-3094 to access the clinic Wednesday 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Oxygen Art Centre: All events including spring break art camps cancelled through March 27.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 51: Closed until further notice
Run Like A Mother: Postponed from May 10 to Sept. 26.
Salmo Valley Public Library: All programming cancelled, but library remains open.
Slocan Valley Threads Guild: Yard and Yardage fundraiser cancelled.
Taghum Hall: All events suspended until April 15.
Tiny Lights Festival 2020: Postponed to 2021.
Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History: Closed until March 30.
Trafalgar Middle School: Connections Culture Camp scheduled for April 3 cancelled.
West Kootenay Regional Science Fair: Cancelled along with all school district events.
WorkBC Centre: Office closed, but remote services available.
