Qualicum Beach council has taken a similar route to decision-makers in Parksville – property taxes will be due July 2, but no penalties will be applied until further down the line.

Payments received between Oct. 2 and Dec. 1 will be subject to a one per cent penalty, with taxes received after Dec. 1 subject to a nine per cent penalty.

Coun. Adam Walker and Coun. Robert Filmer voted against adoption, who both expressed concern around doing all three readings as well as adoption at once, leaving no time for public comment.

John Marsh, director of finance for the town, said getting the bylaw passed as soon as possible would be helpful for his department, which needs to start printing tax notices soon.
