Cowichan Tribes’ schools and daycare, Si’em Lelum Gym, and its Youth Centre have closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
The Tribes Medical Transportation and Elders programs will also not be available until further notice.
Chief William Seymour said the First Nation will work to continue to provide essential services that contribute to the health and safety of community members until March 31.
They include receiving social assistance on March 24, when cheques can be picked up between 8:30 a.m. and noon.
The band will also continue the education living allowance, lease payments and the Slhexun Sun’ts’a’ Clinic, which will have no bookings and will only deal with phone calls from its clients from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The community health nurse will also continue services, but would prefer phone calls at this time.
The security guardian, enforcement and sustainable housing programs will also continue, as well as water monitoring, on-call mental health crisis counselling and the Meals on Wheels program, although on a reduced service.
The Lalum’utul Smun’eem Child and Family Services will continue on an on-call call basis.
