A crash in north Nanaimo shut down a section of the old Island Highway earlier this evening.
A car and a crossover utility vehicle crashed at the old Island Highway at Oliver Road on Sunday at 5:15 p.m.
Emergency personnel at the scene said one occupant from each vehicle was transported to hospital with unknown injuries that weren’t life-threatening.
A Chevrolet Cavalier and a Toyota Highlander were wrecked in the crash. Emergency personnel said it’s believed that the Highlander was travelling northbound and the Cavalier was southbound and turning left onto Oliver Road when the accident happened.
A lamp standard was knocked over in the crash. Both northbound lanes were closed between Mostar Road and Turner Road while crews cleared the scene.
