What started as apprehension of a speeding driver, ended in a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Trail on Tuesday.
Of the five vehicles involved, one person is reported to have suffered minor injuries.
“I can’t share too many details as it is still under investigation,” began Sgt. Chad Badry from West Kootenay Traffic Services. “But what I can say, is there was a police officer driving on Highway 22 up the Cominco Hill from Trail, and she saw an oncoming pickup truck travelling down the hill. He was driving faster than the posted speed limit.”
After the officer confirmed the speed, Badry says she turned around to pull the driver over, but lost sight of the truck.
“Then as she came around the corner, catching up to the (pickup), it ended up colliding with a number of different vehicles in the intersection.”
Badry says the driver was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, though he was later released without charges.
“I can’t speak to what happened at the intersection … the investigation is ongoing,” he said. “And, I can say that we’ll be seeking a summons should the investigation warrant us recommending further charges.”

First responders from Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue responded to the five-vehicle collision at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Victoria Street on March 12, shortly after 3:30 p.m.
“One patient was transported to hospital with minor injuries,” Captain Grant Tyson reported Tuesday night. “The highway was closed for over one hour and the incident is under investigation by the RCMP.”
