A crash on the Pat Bay Highway featuring three vehicles snarled morning traffic in the Greater Victoria region.

Sgt. Jereme Leslie of the Saanich Police said the driver of a Hyundia Accent tried but failed to stop for vehicles that had stopped in front of her on the highway near the intersection with Sayward Road. The vehicle accordingly struck a truck, which then struck a vehicle in front of it.

This collision backed up southbound traffic through sections of the Saanich Peninsula up to the location of the collision near near Sayward Road with traffic moving smoothly beyond it. Northbound traffic also experienced delays as emergency crews responded.

Witnesses including this reporter observed a B.C. Ambulance vehicle travelling to the scene of the collision, which was ultimately not needed. But crews needed to tow the Hyundia from the scene because of the damage that the collision had caused to its front. The driver of the Hyundia is a 47-year-old woman from Central Saanich.

The other two vehicles suffered no major visible damages and it is clear whether police issued any tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Commuters elsewhere in the Greater Victoria region also experienced delays, after a tractor-trailer knocked over a light standard on Jacklin Road on the West Shore.
