A room filled with music, dancing, beautiful costumes, and fun: That’s what the Crazy Senoritas are bringing to Golden on their Canadian tour.
The quartet of talented drag queens are bringing their performance from Mexico to up north and onto the stage in Golden on their circuit.
For eight years, the four performers have drawn sold-out crowds to the stage in Mexico, where they earned their reputation. While Trend Tributes record producer Merv Buchanan was on vacation, he came across the Crazy Senoritas and began devising a plan to get them up to Canada. He provides entertainment for the Luna Lounge in Bucerias, Mexico, where the troupe was performing twice a week for eight years, and since he would send talented Canadians to play there, he figured it could work the other way around to get the Crazy Senoritas to Canada.
“It’s probably going to be a shock to the system the first time around,” Buchanan said about people who will enjoy the show for the first time. “But then they’re going to want to come back again and again.”
The queens dress to the nines and perform comedic and highly talented dance routines and acting. They become completely unrecognizable from their day to day selves once they get into costume, Buchanan said.
“It’s four crazy guys you would swear are women when they have their dresses on,” he said. “These are actors, and they have ways of changing their shape and the look of their face. It’s just mind boggling.”
One of Buchanan’s favourite acts is when Diva Divine gets on the stage dressed as a sex therapist in a pink suit. The show is exciting and will hook the audience.
“It certainly seems that Western Canadians have taken to the Crazy Senoritas,” Buchanan said, adding that the largest sections of the Crazy Senoritas’ audience is comprised of couples, but that it is a mix of all types of people as well.
The Crazy Senoritas are Sussan Love, Diva Divine, Dani Sodi, and Miss Leslye.
There are 22 performances on the Crazy Senoritas’ tour this year, including Golden. Last year, nearly every show sold out on tour.
