Patrons of the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) Library branches in 100 Mile House, Quesnel and Williams Lake have taken on the challenge and risen to the occasion.
Through generous donations of these patrons, more than 250 books have been collected, which will be donated to the Slave Lake Library when it is re-opened. The books that have been donated are no more than three years old and are in excellent condition.
During its May board meeting, the CRD directors received a request from the Peace Library Network to help support its efforts to collect new or nearly new books for the Slave Lake Library, which was destroyed during the 2011 wildfires.
As a result, residents throughout the region were requested to donate books to their local CRD library.
The books will now be shipped to the Peace Library Network where they will be stored until the Slave Lake Library is ready to open its temporary location.
It is not too late to donate. Books for this important cause are still being received at CRD libraries.
