A flurry of reports about stolen or lost licence plates were made to Creston RCMP last week, Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said on Monday.
While it is possible that some licence plates do simply fall off, Gollan said that vehicle owners should check their plates regularly. Police found one vehicle being driven last week bearing a plate recently reported as stolen from another vehicle.
“It isn’t uncommon for someone without insurance or plates to simply steal another licence plate and use it,” he said.
Vehicle thieves also commonly switch plates to help avoid detection.
