The Creston Valley Rod and Gun Club are celebrating 100 years of service with two events.
On Saturday, May 25 at Kidd Creek Rifle Range learn about firearms safety and participate in a variety of supervised, free shooting activities. In addition to the rifle range activities, there will be a black powder and ‘cowboy shooting’ demo with “Wild Aware” lessons on bears, frogs, etc.
June 15 at Mawson Lake take part in 3-D archery, ‘how to fish’ activities, fly fishing, fly tying demos and a nature study. Bring the kids and a fishing rod; no licence is required that weekend.
Both events are open to the public and family friendly. Conservation officers will be present at each event to answer questions, a free lunch is provided as long as the hamburgers and hotdogs last.
In addition to maintaining two properties, the Kidd Creek Rifle Range and Mawson Lake, which provide for the safe development of skills for fishing, archery, hunting and shooting sports, the Club offers bursaries for local grads and supports youth who complete the CORE Programme which prepares individuals to become safe and ethical hunters.
Membership includes a membership to the B.C. Wildlife Federation, a province-wide organization which aims to protect and enhance the wise use of the environment for the benefit of present and future generations.
Funds raised by the Creston Valley Rod and Gun Club goes to benefit local projects and community groups. The Creston Valley Rod and Gun Club was a significant contributor to a search & rescue boat, completion of the safer trail for Duck Lake access and worked on Kootenay Lake fish habitat. Cubs, cadets and school groups have used the Mawson Lake property.
Recent projects include the expenditure of many volunteer hours and financial resources to upgrade the rifle range for Federal recertification and to repair the outlet control at Mawson Lake which maintains the water level.
Please celebrate the valley’s outdoor heritage. For more details go to crestonvalleyrodandgunclub.org.
