The entire community is invited to Millennium Park on Sunday, when Addiction Recovery in the Kootenays (ARK) celebrates being substance free.

“When we hear about addictions, it focuses on the negative,” said ARK president Rosemarie Steinruk. “We want to celebrate those freed from addictions.”

She said the organization is expecting about 400 people to attend the event, which features food, music by Mark Koenig and Sylvia Gaudio, and guest speakers.

ARK networking co-ordinator Raff Gaudio conceived the event to bring the Christian community together to hear “testimonies of how people have come to freedom” Steinruk said.

The Creston program is partnered with Langley’s Wagner Hills Ministries, with some of the success stories coming from Wagner Hills clients who serve the community by volunteering in and around Creston.

“It is a stepping stone for them to integrate into normal community life,” Steinruk said.

The event begins with children’s activities at 4 p.m. July 26; food and music start at 4:30, and keynote speaker Tony de Jong speaks at 7 p.m.
