Scott Kennedy, deputy fire chief, said there was a report of a possible explosion in a recycling pile at the facility located at 5771 Production Way, near Fraser Highway and the Langley Bypass.
Shortly after 8 a.m. firefighters appeared to have extinguished the blaze making way for heavy equipment to remove pieces of scrap from the impacted area. Black smoke could be seen rising as the metal was shifted in the area.
Two apparatus responded to the scene. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
The cause is under investigation, Kennedy said.
