Firefighters had to chain their fire truck to a car to keep it from flipping over a steep bank while they helped the occupants out of the vehicle this afternoon.
The accident happened at about 3 p.m. Thursday, April 12, when the woman driving the car lost control of the vehicle while backing out of a steep driveway on the 1600 block of Sherrif’s Way in Nanaimo’s Departure Bay neighbourhood.

The car stopped when it backed into a parked Honda SUV, but was teetering on the edge of a steep three-metre-high bank and was in danger of flipping over with the elderly woman and her husband inside it.
Firefighters at the scene said the couple did the right thing by staying in the car until emergency crews arrived to secure the vehicle.
The couple was shaken by the incident, but uninjured.
