Firefighters were were called in around 10:30 a.m. on Friday and stationed on Phoenix Way, near the mill site, according to Tim Doyle, Nanaimo Fire Rescue deputy chief of operations. Twenty to 25 personnel were on scene, with an excavator and bulldozer assisting in the effort, Doyle said.
Doyle said the fire was approximately 300 feet by 300 feet on Friday afternoon, but not major and is contained. He said city fire crews left the scene at “nightfall” and Harmac Pacific had fire patrols as of this morning.
