Chilliwack residents will have a chance to learn more about crime prevention in their community at a special open house hosted by Mark Strahl, MP for Chilliwack-Hope on Thursday.
“During discussions with local student Alayna Weiss, downtown business owners and other concerned residents, I was heartened to hear how many people in Chilliwack were looking for avenues to get involved in making our community a better place to live, work and raise their families,” said Strahl.
“However, many people didn’t know where to find out about the many opportunities that already exist. I am bringing together local community and government partners that offer volunteer opportunities to promote the work they do and encourage residents to get involved.”
The open house will feature approximately a dozen community and government organizations that offer volunteer opportunities and ways to actively get involved in our community. There will be a wide variety of opportunities suitable for every age level, skill set and available time commitment. There will also be a number of short educational presentations aimed at protecting personal property and preventing residents from becoming victims of crime.
This event is taking place next Thursday, July 7 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Neighbourhood Learning Centre, located at 46361 Yale Road, on the Chilliwack Secondary School campus.
