A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help the tenants of the 17 units affected by the Comox apartment flood.
On the morning of Jan. 10, a Town of Comox water main burst, flooding the bottom floor of the Mariner Apartments complex, and forcing the evacuation of all tenants from 17 units.

On Jan. 11, the tenants were served with ‘frustrated tenancy agreement’ (FTA) papers.
As explained in the document, “a contract is frustrated where, without the fault of either party, a contract becomes incapable of being performed…”
The FTA declared the tenancies terminated and the tenants have been evicted.
All affected tenants have been forced to find new accommodations.
Only one of the tenants had insurance.
The crowdfunding campaign has been initiated by Tianna Franklin – one of the affected tenants.
The target is $8,500.
“We’re asking for $8,500 because that will give $500 for every apartment. The money will be shared equally amongst us. It won’t even begin to cover all of our expenses but it will help soften the blow.”
