With the outcome of the assent vote (referendum) in favour of Electoral Area A residents making a funding contribution towards four recreational facilities located in the Town of Golden, directors of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District unanimously approved the bylaw to establish the Area A Core Facilities Contribution Service at the November 15 inaugural meeting.
The outcome of the vote was 303 yes votes and 133 no votes.
The new service permits the CSRD to make an annual funding contribution to the Town of Golden to cover 20 per cent of the net operating costs of the four facilities, which include the Golden Municipal Swimming Pool, the Golden Civic Centre, the Golden and District Senior’s’ Centre, and the Mount 7 Rec Plex.
All property owners located within the boundaries of Electoral Area A will be taxed to support the four facilities starting in 2019. Based on the 2018 budget figure of $94,000, the residential tax rate for Area A residents will be about $9.27 per $100,000 of the assessed value of land and improvements. For the average residential assessment in Area A of $311,776, this would translate to an annual tax payment of $28.83.
The adopted bylaw will now be submitted to BC Assessment and the Rural Surveyor of Taxes for the tax collection to begin in 2019.
