Jesse Ketler has been acclaimed chair of the Comox Valley Regional District board — a position the Cumberland director has held for the past year.

At Tuesday’s inaugural board meeting, she reflected on a number of notable accomplishments over the course of a challenging year.

“Our communities continue to collaborate,” Ketler said. “We completed the regional housing needs assessment, which is now feeding into the Poverty Reduction Strategy.”

She commended staff for dealing with the logistics of moving to a new building on Harmston Avenue in Courtenay.

The CVRD continues construction of the Comox Valley Water Treatment Project, working with its Liquid Waste Management Process, and working with K’ómoks First Nation partners on servicing the southlands.

She notes the district was required this year to open a regional Level 2 Emergency Operations Centre, through which it helped to interpret provincial health orders and disseminate the information.

“We have a really great team here, and everybody’s pitched in this year,” Ketler said. “I’m proud of the work that we’re doing as a local government as we navigate these challenging times.”

Area B director Arzeena Hamir was elected to another term as vice-chair of the board.
