The Vernon Curling Club parking lot is getting a significant overhaul.

Work on the parking lot started is underway and will continue until Aug. 23.

“During the period of the construction, the parking lot will be closed to all traffic,” said Tanya Laing Gahr, with the city.

“The curling rink is being used as group lodging for wildfire evacuees from the Cariboo region. Alternate parking has been designated for these evacuees by the city.”

Laing Gahr says the parking lot is badly deteriorated and in need of replacement.

“The overall project includes the replacement of the blacktop surface and substrate, the replacement of sidewalks on the north end of the Vernon Recreation Complex, replacement of the existing 1966 water main that runs through the parking lot, updating a fire hydrant, new storm and sewer lines, new catch basins, and a new garbage bin enclosure,” she said.

“The parking stall layout will also be realigned and repainted to increase parking capacity.”

The overall cost to complete the project is $439,109.
