"The resolution to discontinue the Bluegrass Festival after 25 years was one of the tougher decisions we had to make."

Fans of the high lonesome sound in Chilliwack are going to be disappointed.

The Chilliwack Bluegrass Festival is no more.

The decision to discontinue the festival by Chilliwack Community Arts Council is part of some organizational restructuring that’s taking place, said executive director Rod Hudson.

The arts organization is preparing to move shortly into its new Vedder Road location on the south side of Chilliwack.

“Some of our more popular events, classes and activities will continue,” Hudson said.

But some , like the bluegrass festival held every year on Labour Day Weekend, won’t be part of the new direction.

“The resolution to discontinue the Bluegrass Festival after 25 years was one of the tougher decisions we had to make, but at the end of the day nothing lasts forever,” said Hudson.

There were many reasons for it.

“We’re changing the operations to meet the needs of the community and that was one of the things we had to give up. We had a 25-year run, so that’s not bad at all.”

It was always a chance to offer “some of the finest bluegrass music for one of the best and most appreciative audiences one could hope for, ” Hudson added. “Many friendships and many fond memories were made that I’m sure will last a lifetime.

“The Board of Directors and the staff of the Arts Council would like to thank all of those individuals who supported the festival over the years, and wish them many happy bluegrass tunes in the future.”

With the Arts Council moving out of the Chilliwack Cultural Centre building, a new focus and direction will soon be unveiled.

An announcement about the new location is also expected at the end of March.

In the interim anyone wishing to drop off submissions to be juried, including couriers, for the Christmas Craft Market, can do so at the Royal LePage Realty Office, #8 – 8337 Young Rd. Chilliwack.
