A 76-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in Nanaimo, after an incident involving a pickup truck on Wednesday in Parksville.

Cpl. Jesse Foreman of the Oceanside RCMP said the man suffered ‘relatively minor’ injuries.

Police said the cyclist was northbound on Pym Street, behind the pickup. When the driver slowed to turn left on to Humphrey Road, they stopped to allow pedestrians to cross. According to police, the cyclist then rode into the back of the truck.

“They were a road cyclist and so they were going at a pretty good rate of speed,” said Foreman.

There were no injuries to the driver or damage to the truck.
