It was a high-profile incident that probably looked worse to passing drivers than it actually was.
Traffic heading north out of Ladysmith Tuesday afternoon were greeted by the spectacle of three police cars and an ambulance clustered around a man prone in the grass median.
According to Ladysmith RCMP, a cyclist in his late 50s was riding southbound on the Trans-Canada Highway Tuesday at about 4 p.m.
Const. Tim Cosgrove said the man had just passed the Strathcona Road turnoff when he heard the sound of brakes behind him.
Startled, he clipped the curb and pitched off his bike onto the median.
Between the witnesses, paramedics and police gathered at the high-visibility scene — just north of the main entrance to town — the event created quite a spectacle.
But Cosgrove said the man was not believed to have suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for examination.
