A man on a bicycle was hospitalized Wednesday after colliding with a vehicle on Bevan Road in Cumberland.
Comox Valley RCMP was called to the scene shortly after 11 a.m. The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was air lifted to hospital, where he remains.
“The helmet being worn by the cyclist may have saved his life,” said Const. Monika Terragni, Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer. “This is an unfortunate reminder of the importance of safety equipment when mountain biking.”
The driver, a Comox Valley man, remained at the scene and fully co-operated with investigators.
The Comox Valley RCMP Municipal Traffic Section and an RCMP collision analyst are assisting with the investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision. Investigators have been able to rule out alcohol and/or drugs as contributing factors.
