Dash cam helps Penticton RCMP arrest break and enter suspect

RCMP arrested a man after he was caught on dash cam trying to steal a truck

A dash cam helped Penticton RCMP arrest Jason Van Raes on break and enter charges.

On Aug. 14 a homeowner reported a break and enter to his residence and that the suspect attempted to steal his truck that was parked nearby.

While Van Raes got away at the time, without any of the belongings he stole or the truck, a photo from the dash cam inside the vehicle he attempted to steal eventually helped RCMP to arrest the man.

On Aug. 16, with knowledge of the suspect’s identity, members of the Penticton-South Okanagan Similkameen Targeted Enforcement Unit located and arrested Van Raes.

“Great communication, investigation and some help from the public led to this arrest and these charges. Another brazen criminal off the streets,” said Const. Kyle Richmond of the Targeted Enforcement Unit.

Van Raes made his first court appearance on Monday.
